Say Goodbye to STEDS Silliman Branch

STEDS, Silliman branch is the most popular place for students or even teachers in Silliman University to standby or hangout with peers and comrades. It's just right outside the campus.

STEDS is a convenience store that is well known by the people living in the city and even the nearby towns. It has established its name well that it gets stuck on people's mind every time people needs something in a rush. The students, especially the dormers would not even bother go to the downtown area to buy some stuff because they can just simply have a walk to STEDS and buy the stuff that they need.

However, that will not be the case anymore for the next school year...because Silliman University just bought the whole building where the convenience store is at. They say they will use the said building to make a new dormitory for the students.

From a Convenience Store to a Dormitory?

I don't know how students and teachers would react about this issue or if this is even an issue...but for me, they should have given a notice or something that they will be closing for the sake of those people who made STEDS somehow apart of their life.

For me, this is really heartbreaking because STEDS is the place where I stay and wait for my next class. I don't want to go home since our place is far from the school. STEDS is the place where I met my awesome friends! This is the place where we hang out most of the time.

STEDS has been apart of my life and I learned how to love this convenience store.

Did you?

Summer in Dumaguete 2010

It has been more than 7 months since I last step foot on the beautiful city of gentle people.

Even with this small span of time, so many things has changed in the City. The streets are back and wider now. The boulevard is not as attractive as before and is somehow neglected by the local people...and so much more!

Robinsons Dumaguete is slowly getting people's attention; however, they need to improve their marketing strategy. They could probably start advertising the businesses at the mall. I made a 3 days survey in the Mall asking people around if they know of a restaurant called Moon Cafe, a popular restaurant from Cebu serving their uber delicious Filipino-Mexican delicacies, in Robinsons Dumaguete and I was extremely shocked that 32 out of 50 only knew about Moon Cafe.

In addition, one of my favorite places that I hang out during my college days is no longer there...sigh! Dumaguete and Silliman University will never be the same without STEDS Silliman. Students and the people who hangs out at Steds will never forget those times. The first time you tried a cigarette. The times you got drunk...or cried your heart out! The jamming sessions with friends. The talks...

Steds Silliman has touched so many lives and will always be remembered...

Good thing Country Gents is still there!

Whether it's a progress in the making or a devastating downfall, I know that God always has plans for the city.
